What a Financially Comfortable, Successful, Laid-Back Professional Looks Like

Over the years I’ve noticed personality psychology related posts are visited most frequently. So, I’ll expand on a popular, though cryptic, post on particular facets of the Big Five’s Conscientiousness scale and success in various professional contexts. Whereas that post explains in abstract terms, this one provides a concrete (and personal) example. With the lazy days of summer ahead, I’ll discuss that which seems impossible, or at least improbable, for those who live life in the slow lane – laid-back, Type B people with high achievements and financial comfort.

It stands to reason, as popular culture tells us, that hard-driving folks enjoy more fruit from their labor than their counterparts do. It might be hard to believe financial comfort is achievable for the latter if I didn’t have a source of inspiration, a family member that I’m nearly a carbon copy of personality-wise.

2014 In Review for Work-Life Strategies & Solutions

Following an unexpected hiatus, I’m back just in time to provide the annual WordPress year-end report for my blog. Although I wasn’t as prolific as I was last year, I thought I’d publish the report in case anyone wants to see blog-related information such as what the most popular posts were and, at the same time, show my appreciation to WordPress for providing this service to bloggers.

Now, onto plans for next year. First off, I’d like to affirm that the Flipside Workspace user research project (which I mentioned in my previous post) is still happening. So, be on the lookout for a post that will spell out the details in January and consider participating! Among some other major projects I’ll be undertaking is the launching of my YouTube channel later on in the year. Content-wise, the channel won’t be related to this blog but, when it’s launched, I’ll make some mention of it as an opportunity to connect on interests that go beyond the focus of this blog.

As some of you may have guessed, I’ll be attempting to remake myself professionally. I hope that this undertaking will grant me ample opportunity to learn and share nuggets of information about reinventing yourself as a professional. On that note, I ask my readers, what are your plans for next year? Will you be changing anything? If so, how have you planned to go about it?

Gender Representation Disparities in Various Career Fields

Why is Human Resources (HR) dominated by women? It’s been difficult to ignore how frequently this topic has been tackled in the past few years. After considering a number of articles (listed below), I’ve decided to add my voice to the discussion on internal drivers behind career decisions while considering the role of brain development. Indeed, when considering why there are vastly different proportions of men and women in various fields, more insight can be gained by looking beyond physical differences and paying attention to internal predispositions instead.
